Did you know some museums in Amsterdam have extended opening hours? And that they run special programs during those hours? Every Friday, the Van Gogh Museum hosts an evening of drinks, music, art and free tours. It is called Vincent op vrijdag, which translates as Vincent on Friday. This Friday, a special edition is coming up. Vincent op vrijdag – Prints in Amsterdam is a night that focusses on the current exhibition Prints in Paris 1900 – From Elite to the Street.

Check out the entire program on the site of the museum.

Spoonful of Art Amsterdam Art Tip week 16: Danielle Kwaaitaal @ Francis Boeske Projects

Dutch contemporary artist Danielle Kwaaitaal started out as one of the first successful VJ’s back in the glory days of house music (believe me, I was there). She has evolved into a contemporary artist, with an interest in photography and the digital technologies surrounding that field. She was actually one of the first that digitally enhances her photos. Imagine.

You can admire her latest work at Francis Boeske Projects, an art gallery in the North part of Amsterdam. Last chance: it is there until Saturday 22 April. Be sure not to miss it.

Danielle Kwaaitaal, Black Out, Until 22 April. Francis Boeske Projects, Ms. van Riemsdijkweg 41A, Amsterdam.

Art Tip for Week 15

Glenn Brown, a work seen at the expo Rembrandt: After Life.

British artist Glenn Brown has an awesome show in the monumental house of Rembrandt, The Rembrandt House Museum. Also known as Het Rembrandthuis in Dutch. His appropriations of works of Rembrandt are extraordinary, and some of them especially made for this exhibition. You have until 23 April to go and see them.

Glenn Brown, Rembrandt: After Life, until 23 April 2017. Rembrandthuis, Jodenbreestraat 4, Amsterdam.

Art Tip for Amsterdam, week 14. Sjaak Kooij at Ron Lang Art.

Sjaak Kooij is a Dutch contemporary artist who has been highly productive the last year or so. He participated in This Art Fair, where his work caught my eye. Starting 6 April, he has a solo-expo at Ron Lang Art.

Sjaak Kooij, Ramshackle day parade, 6 april tot 6 mei 2017. Ron Lang Art, Laurierstraat 82, Amsterdam.

Art Tip for Week 13

Only a couple of chances left to visit the masterpiece of artist El Greco, Pentecostés. On loan by the Museo Nacional del Prado in Madrid, Spain, this Masterpiece is the sixth in an impressive row. Predecessors were Rembrandt, Warhol, and Chagall, to name a couple.

De Nieuwe Kerk has created a multimedia presentation of this work, combining art, music, and film. Together with the setting in the great Nieuwe Kerk (New Church) and a reconstruction of an altarpiece, this is bound to be an experience for the senses.

Meesterwerk 2017 / Masterpiece 2017. De Nieuwe Kerk. On show until 9 April.

Visit the Art Calendar Amsterdam to check for other exhibitions in Amsterdam.
